Paramedical Professions in France: These are the highest-paying jobs

  • Jun 17, 2026 07:03

A career in the healthcare field? Dietitians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthoptists, and podiatrists: demand is steadily rising across France. And while there are many specialties, they do not all offer the same level of compensation. Let’s take a closer look.

Unlike doctors, healthcare professionals cannot perform surgical procedures or write prescriptions. Their role lies primarily in the field of patient care, but also includes rehabilitation and support. In addition to the professions already mentioned, this sector includes nursing assistants, laboratory technicians, pharmacy technicians, and paramedics.

A state-issued diploma is required to practice these professions. In France, salary levels vary based on several factors: employment status (self-employed, salaried, etc.), chosen expertise, and years of experience.

Who earns the highest incomes?

Orthoptists are relatively little known, yet the profession has the highest earning potential in the paramedical field. As a specialist in vision disorders, these paramedics play an essential role in a society facing an aging population and a growing prevalence of eye conditions. In practice, a visit to an orthoptist—who is responsible for screening, evaluating, and treating vision disorders—is typically preceded by a visit to an ophthalmologist.

And since demand is skyrocketing in many French cities, job prospects for anyone starting a private practice are only getting stronger, with attractive earnings to boot. Working as an orthoptist can earn you up to 5,000 euros net per month—and even more.
