Is flying too expensive? Free services and amenities in economy class

Airfares can be unpredictable. Faced with these fluctuations, many travelers opt for economy class in order to avoid blowing their holiday budget. And contrary to popular belief, economy class still offers a plethora of free perks, especially on long-haul flights with traditional airlines.

If these aren’t offered to you automatically, don’t hesitate to ask the flight crew for them during your flight. While some products and services are provided automatically, others require a specific request. Find out what’s included in economy class:

Entertainment and Kids

• Equipment: headphones, earphones, remote controls, and sometimes newspapers or magazines;
• for children: coloring books, toys, game kits, stuffed animals, and even bassinets for babies (particularly on Air France).

For comfort and hygiene

• Sleep: pillow, blanket, earplugs, sleep mask, and socks;
• Hygiene: refreshing wipes and a small toiletries kit (with a toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.);
• Convenience: charging cables available to borrow (please note: charging external batteries on board is prohibited).

Snacks

On long-haul flights, traditional airlines generally include:

• one or more hot meals, snacks, hot beverages, and a non-alcoholic beverage (water is available at will).

Be sure, however, to carefully review your airline’s terms and conditions: low-cost or regional carriers often charge for all of these services.
