Venezuela is reeling: a pair of extremely powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, have wreaked havoc across the country.

The official death toll is devastating, with more than 1,700 dead, more than 5,000 injured, and more than 50,000 missing. Rescue operations are progressing slowly, hampered by continuous aftershocks and a severe lack of heavy equipment to clear the rubble.

The tragedy has also deeply affected the sports world, particularly football players Hector Bello and Lucas Trejo, both of whom have suffered the tragic loss of family members. In the face of this devastation, international solidarity immediately mobilized to speed up the delivery of initial aid.

Neymar’s big heart and the social media mobilization

It was Neymar who provided the decisive impetus for the relief efforts. The Brazilian star signed a check for $250,000, which was donated directly to humanitarian organizations. This substantial sum will be used to provide drinking water, medical supplies, essential food items, and to build temporary housing for those affected by the disaster. On social media, the player expressed his support for the Venezuelan people in a message of hope, wishing the affected communities a swift return to normal life.

Antonela Roccuzzo’s major fundraiser and international aid

The response from the football world doesn’t stop there. Antonela Roccuzzo, Lionel Messi’s wife, was keen to contribute by making a personal donation of $500,000. The model and entrepreneur also launched a major online fundraising campaign that, in just a few days, reached the extraordinary total of $4 million.

At the same time, the international community is mobilizing through specific initiatives, such as “Operation Amistad,” launched by India to send emergency supplies. This incredible economic and logistical effort is providing vital support on the ground, where rescue workers are engaged in a true race against time before the window of opportunity to find survivors closes for good.
